For example, it has been suggested that the Strogg might once have been wholly organic, like Humans, before developing an obsessive reliance on technology and bodily augmentations which would one day bring the entire race under the commanding influence of a series of warlords.Īn SMC Marine has theorized that they may in fact be the remnants of a race of artificially created supersoldiers, which took part in a terrible war long ago. It is unknown exactly when or how the Strogg civilization emerged, although there are many hypotheses circulating among the Human armed forces and the scientific community back on Earth. The physical appearance of the Strogg before they became cyborgs is unknown. Most weapons used by Strogg soldiers appear to be integrated into their right arms. All Strogg have the same basic appearance, however bipedal humanoids with a large amount of cybernetic implants. This was done by recording our own five minute demo in spectator mode, as we watched the 16 bots fight to complete the objectives. The physical appearance of a Strogg is determined by its role in Strogg society. And while this limitation can be removed in the game console, there is no other easy way do it.įor benchmarking we used the game's built-in timedemo rather than fraps. I can understand the online multiplayer being limited to 60fps, but I have no idea about the single player. Interestingly the single player mode is limited to just 30fps in the demo, while multiplayer is limited to 60fps. Rather, the processor has proven to play a most vital role when it comes to performance, which will help justify those overclocking ventures. We also discovered that this game is not nearly as GPU-dependant as most other FPS titles. The game has been optimized rather well and we found it to be quite playable with a mid-range GeForce 8600 GT board using all the high quality settings. Taking the newly released Enemy Territory: Quake Wars demo, we have ran a number of tests to determine what kind of hardware you need to enjoy this game with all the eye candy turned on. If you still want to look at the bright side, unlike Bioshock and MoH: Airborne, Enemy Territory is by far a more system friendly title, as you are about to find out. Sure, it still looks very nice but when compared to the games built on the Unreal 3 engine there is little comparison to be made, at least in my opinion. While these other recently released titles are based on the visually stunning Unreal 3 engine, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is built around a modified version of the id Tech 4 (Doom 3) engine with MegaTexture technology. Having come from Bioshock and then Medal of Honor: Airborne (which completely blew me away), Enemy Territory: Quake Wars seems somewhat bland thus far. Again, while my time playing the Quake Wars demo has been brief, there appears to be little wow factor so far. However that also makes it difficult for a good game to stand out amongst the really great ones. We can already tell that the second half of 2007 is going to be a great time to be a PC gamer, with many triple-A titles released recently and more still on the way. Although it is hard to fully evaluate the game on what I have seen so far, the demo has failed to impress me which is exactly what the Battlefield 2 demo achieved back in the day. So when news broke of an id Software version I began to get quite excited again. This game was heaps of fun though the exciting play was undone somewhat by the title's poor stability. I still remember when the Battlefield 2 demo was first released (November 28th 2005, to be exact) because it got me completely hooked from the get go. Essentially what we have here is Battlefield 2 put in Quake's world, so anyone familiar with the BF2 style of play will pick up ETQW very quickly. Rather the game requires a larger number of players to take one of two sides where these sides will compete to accomplish certain objectives. While Enemy Territory is a first person shooter, it is unlike previous Quake games as there is no deathmatch mode. Just recently id Software released the demo of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (ETQW), a game that I have been eagerly awaiting for some time now. In this particular case, while the game did provide me with enough hours of enjoyment to make it worthwhile, there was definitely something missing. Games like Quake 4 can easily become a let down when so much is expected of them. That said, I did find Quake 4 to be somewhat disappointing. For years I have been a fan of the Quake series and not regretfully I wasted away countless hours in Quake III: Rocket Arena. ![]() ![]() ![]() As long as you're only using the light/dark variants of a single colorscheme, it should work decently.Īs you can see in this screenshot, it's not perfect (front is terminal, rear is MacVim - note the differences in the airline text, as well as the illegible block of black near the middle, which is supposed to be light text on a dark background), but it gets 99% of the way there without having to touch any vim/tmux/vim-airline settings. If in your light terminal color scheme, you invert the definitions of ANSI black & white ( i.e., set black/brightblack as the light background colors and white/brightwhite as the dark foreground colors), tmux and vim will follow suit. What I've found is that both tmux and vim borrow the 16 ANSI color values defined in your terminal color scheme (black, red, green, yellow, blue, magenta, cyan, white, and all their ‘bright’ variants). I've landed on an imperfect, hacky semi-solution, but from what I've gathered, taming terminal colors is not exactly a trivial problem. I don’t have to bounce a single sound unless I need to, like when the sound is dependent on it’s horizontal position in the sequencer, and I want to move some stuff about but preserve the sound it had.Īnother thought about the Reason sequencer, I think it benefits progressive/non-repetitive music best. My rack has grown so big at times that scrolling up and down it takes ages with the mouse-wheel. But when using anything that’s already initialised, it is scaleable smooth operation. I think there’s some algorithm that runs in linear time that has to iterate the tracks and do something or other internally. I can literally use thousands of effects and it never start lagging out The only time it lags out is when you enable automation on some knob, or add a new track. I recently wanted to use Gross-beat, and just on the off-chance searched for a 64-bit version, and lo and behold, I downloaded it from their website, and it just worked straight out the box in reason. This is on an overclocked i7 7700k, too.Ī big part of that I think is that many of the plugins in FL were 32-bit, and had to be bridged in order to communicate with 64-bit FL. ![]() I dreaded the process of bouncing stuff, and disabling all of the mixer channel effects to speed it up. That was a major problem for me in FL, it was limiting my tack complexity because of performance issues. Reason 10’s last major update patch massively increased efficiency. But if there are a lot of frequencies going on, it’s going to struggle. Depending on the sound, it usually sounds very good. However, Reason also has the ability to stretch/compress audio clips and keep pitch. There is an official rack extension that allows real-time, automatable, pitch-shifting +/- 2 octaves, though. But it is still missing some kind of playback speed automation. Version 11 now has cross-fading audio clips on the same track. I agree the sequencer isn’t ideal, but once you’re used it, it is actually quite powerful. I recently upgraded to Reason 11 (from 10), and they’ve made some decent changes. In Reason, right click on a clip, bounce, and bam, there it is right underneath the track from which it was recorded. It actually put me off bouncing sounds because it was such a pain. It would appear right at the bottom, not grouped with the track you were recording. You had to select which tracks to record, select a range of the track, click on some menu, and bounce the selection to an audio track. no latency issues destroying all your timing across all plugins.full MPE support (you need to use workarounds in Live).no plugin GUI update issues like in Ableton (some plugins don’t update the GUIs in Live in good frequency when active). The capture function is the only function i really miss in BW (and maybe the Live options to change grid size)ĭoes it successfully combine Live’s elegance with Reason’s ability to… tinker, tweak and modulate?Īlso, I just wrote about it yesterday at another place, it just works much better in many regards, for instance:.I’m used to it and have many projects, User library files and so on.The only reasons I’m still using Live are: I own versions of all three DAWs and like BW best by far. Does it successfully combine Live’s elegance with Reason’s ability to… tinker, tweak and modulate? So I guess my question is, are my impressions of Bitwig 3 correct? I can download the demo and have a play around myself, but I’d value the opinions of people who’re familiar with it. Plus it’s stable and has a great sound engine? From what I can tell, it looks like it takes the cleanness of Ableton’s interface, while giving easy access to the kind of modulation you can get in Reason if you’re prepared to badger about with CV routing and signal splitters. I had a few methods for turning that into tracks, but that first step of breaking out was always the hardest.Īnd now Bitwig has caught my eye. And mixing/eq didn’t feel as natural as Live.Ībleton Live’s workflow was a lot better for me, and the Session View was brilliant for getting ideas down and jamming stuff, but tended to leave me stuck in an 8/16 bar loop. The complete separation of rack and song view is kinda jarring. I adore Reason 10 for its modularity and sound design capability (by gawd the sound design is so good), but I just can’t get to grips with the workflow for making an actual – you know – track.
